About Chris......

Chris is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) who has been in private psychotherapy practice for over four years in Media, Newtown Square, and Devon, PA. He specializes in Children and adolescents, working within a cognitive-behavioral framework. He has treatment experience with depressive disorders, anxiety, anger management, and behavior modification planning. He has worked with an intermediate unit as a mobile therapist, giving him extensive experience with autistic spectrum disorders and social skills training. Chris is also a certified secondary school counselor at an alternative school.

Chris Willson graduated from Chestnut Hill College in May 2003 with a Master of Sciences in Counseling Psychology. His specialty during the graduate program was children and adolescents. Although he is a recent graduate, Chris has been working in the field for several years in several different roles.

In addition to being in private practice, Chris presently is working in Chester County with young children diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Autism, and ADHD. He works on a behavioral team assisting the children with conquering fears and ceasing perseverative and/or defiant behavior. He also teaches calming techniques and provides psychotherapy to the children and their families. Chris has been providing these services since late 2000.

In his psychotherapy practice, Chris has treated a wide range of children and adolescents from 3 to 21 years of age. He has seen patients from all over Southeastern Pennsylvania from the Media office, and also North Central Pennsylvania from the Bloomsburg office. He has provided effective treatment for anxiety management (phobias, general, panic attacks), depression, bipolar, physical and sexual abuse, anger management. He has also provided social skills training.

The process of treatment involves setting achievable goals that suit the young person and the family system around him or her. Once the goals are set, the family and Chris work as a team using cognitive behavioral and play therapy to alleviate the symptoms and the cause. Individual and family therapy sessions can be utilized.

Chris is an effective and energetic therapist who resides in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, and enjoys music, art, and athletics in his free time.
