Dori Middleman, M.D.

Dori is board certified in child and adult psychiatry and in psychopharmacology by the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College cum laude with a B.A. in Sociology in 1978, and from Temple University School of Medicine in 1987.She completed three years of residency in adult psychiatry at the Hahnemann University Hospital and two years of residency in child psychiatry at the Pennsylvania Child Guidance Center.

Dori is a certified Gestalt therapist and trainer with the Pennsylvania Gestalt Center and has been on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She has given presentations at a number of institutions including the Family Institute of Philadelphia, Bryn Mawr College, and the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy and Training in New York.

As a child and adult psychiatrist and Gestalt psychotherapist, she provides evaluation and ongoing treatmentfor people of all ages. She teaches and supervises therapists in connection with the Pennsylvania Gestalt Center and co-leads Gestalt workshops with Mariah Fenton-Gladis, the founder of the center, and Mark Putnam, M.D.

She prescribes medication for people who wish to combine biological therapies with other methods of healing. Her philosophy of practice is based upon the Gestalt concept that each individual is the best guide to their own needs, and that her skill can be most useful in collaboration with the individual and others in their life - family, friends, and professionals.

Additionally, Dori founded the Center for a Healthy World in 1993, a program which facilitates free counseling through a barter system - Therapists see people in exchange for their doing volunteer work with charitable organizations. CHW is responsible for generating thousands of hours of volunteer time for many Delaware Valley organizations and causes.
